We are a traditional egalitarian congregation, with both genders participating fully in worship and leadership. Our membership of about 350 families includes the shomer shabbos and the less observant; Ashkenazim and Sephardim, converts and kohanim, married and single, toddlers and great-grandparents, serious daveners and those hoping to schmooze at Kiddush. Siddur Sim Shalom is our prayerbook and we have minyanim both morning and evening, 365 days a year. Every Shabbat we have a lively morning service attended by more than 100. Our mincha service is followed by Seuda Shlishit (3rd Shabbat meal), singing, ma'ariv, and Havdalah. Our excellent three-day-per-week Hebrew School teaches Jewish History, Bible, and Ethics, as well as Hebrew Language. We have a large library, and a lively congregational life which includes Shabbat dinners, Hanukah parties, dinner dances, Purim spiels, and other programs. Youth Groups, Brotherhood, Sisterhood, Social Action Committee, several chavurot, and Adult Education are all active. Our staff includes Rabbi Joel Pitkowsky, Cantor Marina Shemesh, Executive Director Judy Moseley, and Coordinator of Youth and Family Education Nancy Marin. Alan Harris is President. We have been in Worcester for over 80 years and our current campus includes a Jewish Community Day School. We extend to you a warm welcome to our shul. Please visit us.

Our synagogue is a place of warm welcome!
Fully egalitarian and diverse, we believe that the path to Jewish observance is through education, community, and tolerance; these principles have led to sixty years of service to the community. We provide religious, spiritual and social support for our members, people who vary greatly in their religious backgrounds and levels of Jewish observance.  So, whether you are someone who is completely fluent in the rituals of Judaism, or someone who is a complete novice, or you are someone who is completely observant of Jewish laws and practices or someone who just needs a connection to your heritage, you will find a place and a home at Temple Shalom.  From the first time you enter our doors, you will feel like you have a home and a place here.

Rabbi: Victor Hillel Reinstein
Nehar Shalom is an intimate, joyful Jewish community growing organically in a diverse, vibrant and socially conscious neighborhood of Boston. Located in a large, beautifully preserved Victorian house by Jamaica Pond, we are Jamaica Plain's first ever synagogue. Without airs, we offer immediately accessible community in which each person has the opportunity to make a difference. Our davening, our manner of prayer, is traditional in form, primarily in Hebrew, filled with spirit and song. In keeping with the warmth and openness of the Chassidic shtibl or prayer room, the transplanted model upon which we are based, our goal is not to be rabbi-centered, but to offer leadership opportunity to all, with the rabbi serving primarily as teacher and guide. Seeking to reflect God's Oneness and to see God's image in each person, our defining values include a commitment to social justice, to inclusion, to equality of men and women, and to striving to transcend differences and recognize each other's gifts. We welcome interfaith families and offer a safe place of worship and belonging to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Jews.
