Educational Loans for Local Jewish Women
The Max G. Rosenfeld Foundation offers non-interest loans to young Jewish women of the Greater Boston area for technical training or undergraduate and graduate programs. Qualifying students repay their loans on a regular monthly basis after they have completed their studies and are working. Loans up to four thousand dollars are made on an annual basis to students who maintain a satisfactory grade average. Applications must be submitted by April 30. All requests for applications should be made in writing to : Mrs. Ruth F. Wolf, Scholarship Counselor, c/o Jewish Family and Children's Service, 1430 Main Street, Waltham, MA 02451.

JWH Tikun Olam Family Work Project
August 2009
Tikun Olam is the Hebrew for 'repairing the world." Sometimes, this mitzvah takes the form of actual manual labor. If you are interested in a different kind of Tikun Olam experience, consider joining the fourth annual week-long JWH Tikun Olam Family Work Project taking place August 16-21, 2009. We travel as an informal group to the remote northern town of Limestone, Maine, where we spend five days doing construction and repair for individuals in dire need who have been identified by a local clergy person. The group is not officially affiliated with any one synagogue, but it is a loose conglomerate of Jewish individuals and families from Greater Boston.
The trip is designed to accommodate families as well as individual participants. The minimum age is 12, and all children under 18 must be associated with at least one adult participant - typically, but not necessarily, a parent.
Typical jobs in the past have included building wheelchair ramps, insulating walls, replacing windows, fixing porches, and painting the outsides of rehabilitated houses. While maven-with-a-drill skills are helpful, all you'll really need is a willingness to work, to learn, and to help us fulfill our motto: "Repairing the World - One House at a Time."
